CCNZ Young Contractors Group in the Wellington/Wairarapa Region Launch Event
A successful first gathering for the CCNZ Young Contractors Group in the Wellington/Wairarapa Region. With a great start to networking and gathering ideas to tackle as an industry. Some very interesting initial conversations about the learning and qualifications processes for teams and bringing up the next generation of contractors. There were some great side conversations about the application of work, how jobs can be priced, and how challenging soil and site conditions can be approached for project planning, with some key insights from senior project planners and site supervisors.
Marianne from Goodmans then started the evening with an overview of the plan to grow and develop people and skills within civil construction and how initiatives like this are one of the tools being developed to support the industry long term.
Cody from Multi Civil then gave a history of his journey through the process of coming up in the industry, touching on key mentors he met along the way and the help and guidance they provided him. He then looked forward to how he is applying these learnings from his journey to his team and providing opportunities to the next generation of contractors making their way through the process now.
Wade from Central Group was offered a chance to speak about the importance of connections within the industry and getting to know those around you, and becoming established within the networks that work together and sometimes compete against each other within the sector. Not forgetting a last little shot at reminding the guys of our quality range of construction equipment range from Takeuchi and Wacker Neuson.
Laura from CCNZ Wellington/Wairarapa then handed out a few activities to get the idea generation brainstorming underway on the big issues that need addressing and how to inspire the next generation around the future of civil and infrastructure work and creating opportunities for teams and owners to develop and grow the sector from within.
The evening wrapped up with more one-to-one conversations about everything from hydro excavation vs pneumatic excavation, ground density and project quotes, team/equipment planning and management, and new approaches to team education and development.
In all a very successful first outing for the CCNZ Young Contractors Group event, with some great minds tackling the tough challenges coming for the civil and infrastructure industry. It was great catching up with McCormack Group, Multi Civil, Goodmans Contractors, and the team from CCNZ. We can’t wait to see more familiar faces and a few new ones at the next event!
